“Basically, any agent or employee of MN or a local government in MN including police or security dept of a public primary/secondary school/higher education, teacher/professor/staff of those schools or university, publicly owned health care facility or a health care facility under contract with a publicly owned one, peace officer, any agent or employee of any law enforcement agency, or any agent or employee of a court of MN or a local government of MN cannot stop/question/investigate/detain/DETECT (can't look for them)/report/arrest, or do anything when requested to hold/notify or given a civil immigration warrant or transfer request by federal immigration authorities, including detainer requests by ICE. They also can't disclose any public data, make an arrest, give federal agents access to interview the individual if they are in MN's custody. Can't assist in any way - including setting up traffic perimeters. They cannot be deputized by a federal agency to assist with immigration, and if they are, they will be fired as they cannot be employed by MN or a local govt agency. They cannot inquire about immigration/citizenship status or birth place of someone who is arrested or the victim of a crime.
The odd thing is this is supposed to be about illegal immigrants and the bill places restrictions on govt agents and nongovt organizations who receive funds from MN/local govt stating they cannot use the funds/facilities/etc to cooperate w/ investigations or enforcement of any federal program requiring registration of individuals based on race/gender/sexual orientation/religion/national or ethnic/origin or make governmental databases available to others for the purpose of immigration enforcement/investigation/enforcement of federal programs based on race/gender/......

So this bill was originally introduced in March 2023. House bill HF2860 and there is a Senate companion bill SF2724. It was also set to require all state/local govt offices/public schools/hospitals/courthouses to publish policies that they will prevent immigration enforcement from taking place on their grounds. Effectively creating protected safe spaces where they can run to and say
